The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. Jim Morrison, American Singer

Feelings seemingly expressed are often not the ones truly felt. They are expressed in order to convey a certain image or persona to other people.

Often the feelings actually felt by the one expressing them are much deeper, and even sometimes, much more painful and darker.

So why do people sometimes feel much differently than what they express, and why do they keep their true feelings in hiding?

The reality is different people have different reasons. Some keep their true feelings much more hidden than others do.

To really understand people, we must understand their motivations for keeping feelings hidden. Why some keep almost all true feelings and emotions hidden. While others are much more forthright and comfortable in their expressions to others.

If this seems on the order of solving mysteries, it is. People are constantly learning by living their different experiences which are uniquely their own.
